Here’s a short example:
Welcome and thank you everyone. I hope you are having a wonderful time,
Today, we gather here to celebrate a very special moment in the lives of my son MARK and his loving partner, Samantha. Of course we are grateful for everyone here, particularly those who have come great distances to celebrate with us today!
As the proud father of the groom, it’s an honor for me to stand before you and share a few words on this joyous occasion.
Let me start by saying that I have never seen my son this happy and I thank God and the beautiful bride for making that happen.
Seeing you both make your vows brought tears to my eyes and it reminded me of when I held Mark’s mom and promise to love her till the end of time. It was such a glorious moment.
Three years after our marriage, we had Mark, our first child and it was such a huge blessing. I still remember how I held him after birth and was completely overwhelmed and nervous about my role in his life and what the future held for him and my wife. But I promised God to always be there for him so he grows up to become a child after his own heart.
It was a joy and privilege to share our lives with him and watch him grow into a happy little boy. Little Mark was cheerful and fun to be around. He was particularly close to me but loved his mom for her cakes and desserts.
The little boy had a sweet tooth, still to this day. I am happy Samantha is a good cook as well and can take care of his voracious appetite. He really is in safe hands.
There was never a dull house whenever he was around. This sounds funny. Once, he came over to me and asked, Dad, can I have an extra mom? He was only five years old by then but I was alarmed by that question.
So, I asked him, why do you want another mom and I still remember what he said. He said mom doesn’t prepare enough pancakes for me. I always send just one to school. If you get an extra mom, I would send two to school. One for myself and the other for my best friend! We always have to share what she gives me.
Needless to say, his mom started giving him two pancakes. Another time, he came over and said, Dad, can you get a second wife? His mom almost spanked him but I had to quickly to carry him away to avoid being spanked.
When we were alone, I asked him why I needed a second wife and he said, Mom hardly gives me pancakes these days because she’s so busy in the house. If you marry another woman, she would take care of my cakes while mom takes care of my siblings.
I then realized how thoughtful she was about his mom and her total well-being. We had to bring in a nanny to help make my only wife’s live much easier. He still cares about his mom and he will put the needs of Samantha ahead of his own!
His mom and I are proud of the man he’s become and we couldn’t be more excited that God has brought Samantha into his life. It’s always been our prayer that he will be blessed with someone who loves the Lord and Samantha is the answer to that prayer.
She is wise, kind, and a person of faith, just like our son. My advice for them would be to love one another just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for it.
They should also remember that love is not a feeling but a daily action of gratitude, sacrifice, and love. Love doesn’t keep score. Love doesn’t remind the other of their past mistakes. Love knows how to communicate with more empathy as it doesn’t say everything that comes to the mind.
God bless you and cause his face to shine on you all the days of your lives. Cheers!
Wow! That is so nice. It is a funny and heartfelt Christian father of the groom speech about a father’s love for his son and daughter-in-law.

Create An Outline/Structure For Your Christian Father Of The Groom Speech And Toast
Here is how outling your speech benefits you:
· It helps convey your key points clearly.
· Outlines make writing and editing easier.
· An outline keeps your speech organized, ensuring a clear and concise delivery.
Here’s a simple outline I created based on the above example.
· Welcome note for the guests
· Thanking everyone for attending the wedding
· Mention who you are and your relationship with the bride and groom
· Start with a killer hook or opening address
· Talk about your son
· Share fond and funny stories about your son
· Share your hopes and dreams for him
· Talk briefly about the bride
· Share some nuggets about marriage
· Propose a toast to the groom and bride
Here’s what you have to do next after creating an outline. You have to support those bullet points with the personal anecdotes to form a rough first draft.
Now, let’s see how it’s done with practical examples.
· Welcome Note For The Guests
Do I have to show you an example about how to write your welcome remarks? I don’t think so. Anyone can do that, including you. I believe in you. You are also capable of doing this.
· Thank Everyone For Attending The Wedding
Simply thank everyone for coming. You may also thank some personalities like:
· Your wife/ mother of the groom
· His grandparents if they are alive or not. I remember a father of the groom honored his dad in his speech for molding the groom into the person he is.
· The bride’s parents for their help and support and welcoming your son into their family with open arms and hearts.
My question is, who do you want to thank and what is the reason for your thank? Please jot down your thoughts.
Here’s a short example:
Thank you to all the helpful people, hotel staff, band and catering for such a wonderful presentation and making today special.
1) Dave and Martha you have raised such an amazing lady. I’m honored to have Amanda as my daughter-in-law and the rest of your family in our lives.
2) Grandpa Ly is looking down upon us and smiling. But I’d like to welcome Grandma Anne here tonight traveling from Santa Rosa, CA to be with us.
· Mention Who You Are And Your Relationship With The Bride And Groom
An example would be:
I am Tim, the proud father of the groom…
· Start With A Killer Hook Or Opening Address
A killer hook is an opening statement that engages the audience from the get-go. Here are some practical steps of doing that.
· Start with a prayer by asking the couple to join hand together.
· You can open your speech with a verse of scripture. You may use this bible quotation:
· Ecclesiastes 3:11 American Standard Version (ASV)He hath made everything beautiful in its time
· Psalm 133: 1How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity
· You may start with a joke.
· You may start by singing a song to praise and thank God for such a time like this if you have a good singing voice.
· Share your personal sentiments about the wedding ceremony like this:
‘’Let me start by saying that I have never seen my son this happy and I thank God and the beautiful bride for making that happen’’
· You can start by complimenting the bride and groom.
· You can start by sharing a moving story about happened before he was born. Did you and his mom go through a lot to get him? Please share that testimony as such stories brings glory to God and express your family’s undying faith in him.
Now, how would you like to start your speech?
· Talk About Your Son
Here, you can brainstorm with his mom and write down answers to the following questions:
· What was he like when he was a little boy?
· What was his first day in school like?
· How was he like when he was growing up?
· What event made you proud? Did he volunteer at church? Did he teach Sunday school? Did he excel in sports in college or high school?
Do you have written answers to those questions? Ok. Can you use them to write a rough first draft? Can you draft a rough outline using those points? Remember, you don’t have to use them all. One or two or even three ideas are enough to do just that. What you select though should be fun and relatable.
Share Fond And Funny Stories About Your Son
Below is an example:
So, I asked him, why do you want another mom and I still remember what he said. He said mom doesn’t prepare enough pancakes for me. I always send just one to school…
What’s your favorite memory about when he was growing up? Did he pull a prank on you? Was he mischievous?
Did he end up in the middle of nowhere? Just put down your thoughts and embellish them with a story or two.
· Share Your Hopes And Dreams For Him
Here, you have to talk about the qualities you hoped he would develop as he grew up and the kind of partner you envisioned him finding.
· Talk Briefly About The Bride
Here are some questions to help you come up with the right stories.
· Who is the bride and what’s her worldview?
· Who and what does she represent?
· How does she complement your son?
· What admirable qualities does she bring to the marriage?
· Why do you think she will be a loving partner?
· Is she rooted in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ? If so, how does she exhibit that?
