Funny And Heartfelt Mom And Dad Of The Groom Speech Example
Hello everybody I’m Shane’s dad Lez and this is my lovely wife Donna.
Yes, that’s me. Thank you honey and hello everybody. I love you!
I’d like to start by thanking everybody for coming to join us today. Are you okay honey? Yes, my dear! Yes, yes, yes my sweetheart!
I would like to say that I think everybody looks absolutely amazing tonight. I think a little clap for yourselves will go a long way. Kathy, you look beautiful and Shane you look alright too.
I’d just like to say a couple of quick words about Shane. He was a good kid growing up. He did well at school, loved sports and he started playing rugby when he was five years old.
He became friends of his best man Darion when they were six about 6 or seven. They played football, went to school together and they were inseparable until his family moved back to New Zealand. They stayed mates, visited each other over the years and we’re so happy to have Darian and Sophie here to join us tonight for his wedding.
He finished school high school and at 17 Donna shipped him off the air force where he served for about 11 years.
Son, we’re really proud of everything you’ve done and what you have achieved. Honey, you promised not to cry. What are those tears for? Can I get you a tissue?
Have never used one my whole life so I don’t need it? Then, please stop crying baby!
Well, I want to clear this up! I did not Ship Shane off to the Air Force. Shane, did I really ship you off to the Air force? If I didn’t ship you off to the Air force, we wouldn’t have this illustrious group of people over at table three!
So, about seven years ago in a galaxy far far away. I was saying in a galaxy far far away the stars aligned and he met his soul mate.
He met Caitlyn Alexandra El. And you know what? Shane didn’t even tell us about her for about three or four months. He kept her to himself and we found out by some Facebook activity. He started liking particular girl’s comments even if those comments weren’t funny enough. That’s how we found out about her.
Katie, I remember the first time I met you. I think Jane was Jane was there and Shane’s nana was there and I knew straight away. I just knew that you were the right one for Shane.
Okay, honey this one is for you. They bought a house, made a home. They filled it with Lego, Star Wars, two cats Bruce and Bailey who you’ve heard about.
Most importantly, they filled it with their love for each other. Katie we love you and everything you bring to the family.
Yes Katie we do love everything you bring to the family. We love your awesome short boards. They’re so good and your Blondie slice. She chops up milky bars because that’s what Shane eats and puts them in the Blondie slice.
You’ve got so much positivity and most of all you bring your love of Shame. You two are like Ben and Jerry’s. You go together like…um… I want to say you go together like me and my husband.
Robbie and David we love you as part of our extended family we always have fun and a good time and we know that Katie is precious to you. But I know that she is in safe hands and Shane will look after her for you.
Katie even though you’ve been part of the family for the last seven years it’s now official. So welcome to the family.
Could I get everyone to charge their glasses? Please I’d like to make a toast to
Shane and Katie and wish them a long and happy marriage.
That was not only hilarious but an awesome beautiful speech and I wish every parent can make a speech like that.
But, it’s possible. The following tips can help you and your spouse put together a great parents of the groom speech.
Here’s how to do it.
Start by creating a speech structure. Guess what? This particular outlined evolved from the above example.
· Thanks everyone for coming
· Introduce yourself
· Thank everyone for their help and support
· Start talking about your son
· Share a few anecdotes about his life
· Talk about the bride and how you met her
· End with your toast
This is what you do next: You and your partner should divide the speech and decide on the speaking order.
For example, you and your significant other may decide to split the entire speech into these key parts:
· (my wife says that) Thanks everyone for coming
· (We both do this together) Introduce yourself
· (My husband and I take turns) Thank everyone for their help and support
· (My wife will start this) Start talking about your son
· (We will share a story each about his life) Share a few anecdotes about his life
· (You both have to decide) Talk about the bride and how you met her
· (My husband shares advice and wife toasts the couple) End with your toast
Did you see how I did that? Now, let’s get back to the example and see how Lez and his wife divided the responsibility of speaking about their son.
Let’s get into it using the above speech structure.
· Thanks everyone for coming
That is not too challenging, is it?
· Introduce yourself /each other
Here’s an example:
Husband: Hello everybody I’m Shane’s dad Lez and this is my lovely wife…
Wife: Yes, that’s me. Thank you honey…
· Thank everyone for their help and support
You can take turns thanking family and friends for their help and support.
· Start talking about your son
Husband speaks: I’d just like to say a couple of quick words about Shane. He was a good kid growing up. He did well at school, loved sports and he started playing rugby when he was five years old
Wife speaks: Share a memorable anecdote from his life.
· Share a few anecdotes about his life
Here are some ideas you can talk about separately or together to craft a meaningful and heartfelt parents of the groom speech.
· How he helped make your life better? Did he take care of you when you were sick? Was he a protective big brother?
· Fun and fond memories
· A moment that made you proud to be a mom or dad. For example, his first job, graduation, a letter he wrote you, a gift sent over. I once wrote a speech for mom who said his son used to prepare dinner and it was always a joy to come back home to see his beloved chef in the kitchen.
The key is to brainstorm together and write down the good points you would like to use for your speech.
· Talk about the bride and how you met her
Here’s an example:
Yes Katie we do love everything you bring to the family….You’ve got so much positivity and most of all…
· End with your toast
Here’s an example:
As you begin this new chapter, remember that marriage is a journey, not a destination. May you navigate life’s ups and downs with patience, understanding, empathy, and unwavering love. May your bond grow stronger with each passing year. To my son and his lovely wife, may your love be the foundation on which you build your life together. Congratulations.
